Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery in Turkey
Deep brain stimulation ( DBS) is a surgical procedure involving the implantation of electrodes in the brain which delivers electrical impulses that block or alter the symptom-causing abnormal activity.
The system for deep brain stimulation is composed of four parts:
- Leads (thin insulated wires) that end up in brain-implanted electrodes
- A small pacemaker-like device that creates the electrical pulses, called a pulse generator
- Extension refers to the transportation of electrical signals from the device and to the refers implanted in the brain
- Handheld programmer tool that controls the system’s signals and that can switch off and on the tool.
Deep Brain Stimulation Advantages:
Can be performed on one or both sides of the brain, depending on symptoms. The effects are reversible and can be customized individually for each patient’s clinical status. Stimulation settings can be modified to diminish potential side effects and improve effectiveness over time. The device can provide continuous symptom control 24 hours a day. Patients who have undergone DBS can participate in other treatments, such as stem cell or gene therapy, when they become available.
