Balloon Valvotomy Surgery in Bangladesh
Mitral valve stenosis is treated with a balloon valvotomy. It is a procedure that widens the mitral valve to allow for easier blood flow through the heart.
A balloon valvotomy is a technique that is performed with the least amount of invasiveness possible. A thin flexible tube (catheter) is inserted into the heart through an artery in the groyne or arm and threaded through the heart by a doctor. A balloon system on the catheter’s tip is easily inflated when the tube approaches the narrowed mitral valve. As the balloon pushes against the narrowed or fused mitral valve leaflets, they are split and stretched open. This procedure enlarges the mitral valve opening, allowing more blood to flow from the left atrium into the ventricle.
