He completed medical degree from Bangalore Medical College in 1984 and his D.N.B. from St. Martha’s Hospital in 1983. Dr. Ramesh is considered one of the few surgeons who has created Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in India, having conducted over 100 procedures to date. Under Dr. Makam’s leadership, the prestigious Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute & Research Centre was founded.

He has educated over 600 practising surgeons from five continents and has been a key contributor to a number of technologies, including the BEST Endotrainer, Virtual Reality Laparoscopic Surgery Stimulator, and Circulation Pump, all of which are used in Minimally Invasive Surgery training. Dr. Ramesh is now actively involved in weight-loss practice after receiving significant training in bariatric surgery and fellowships in the United States and Germany.

He presented over 65 research papers and videos at state, national, and international conferences in India and overseas. Several best paper prizes have been given out at national conferences. Several scientific sessions at national and international conferences, including the World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, have been invited to be chaired by him.
