Dr. Ravishankar Bhat completed his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore in 1991. And MS in General Surgery in 1996 from Topiwala National Medical College & BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. He then did DNB in General Surgery from DNB board, New Delhi, 1996, and got train in MCh – Surgical Gastroenterology/G.I. Surgery – All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 2000.
He has performed over 4500 Laparoscopic/open Cholecystectomy (Gall Bladder Removal), over 1350 Laparoscopic Appendectomy, over 1500 Laparoscopic Hernia Mesh repairs, Robotic surgeries.Super specialty proficiency; 225 Liver resections, 580 Bariatric surgeries, 112 Porto systemic shunts, 91 Lateral Pancreaticojejunostomy, 325 Whipple’s Pancreaticoduodenectomy , 12cases of Lap Gastrectomy, 52 cases of Lap Fundoplication, 52 cases of Lap Rectopexy, 285 cases of Hepatojejunostomies for biliary stricture. He was also primary surgeon for 2 living donor Liver transplants.
He started his practise in 2000 at St. Philomena’s Hospital as Surgeon till 2002, then joined St. Martha’s Hospital and worked there 1 year. In 2003 he joined at Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute as a Surgical Gastroentrologist. Currently he is practicing at Apollo Hospitals since 2006. He was also rewarded in 2005 by Mahadevan’s Award.
