Arterial switch in Bangladesh
The key treatment for transposition of the great arteries is a surgical operation called arterial switch (TGA). Almost every child with TGA has their arterial switch repaired (also called the Jatene repair).
TGA babies get very sick soon after birth due to a serious shortage of oxygen. Two temporary interventions will help your baby’s condition before undergoing an arterial switch:
starting a prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor
Doing an atrial septostomy with a balloon.
An arterial switch is an open heart operation that is normally performed during early weeks of life.
