The primary function of our kidneys is to filter our blood. Our kidneys may develop masses (growths or tumours) from time to time. While some of these tumours are cancerous, the majority are not. You should have the mass examined to determine if it is cancerous or not.
Kidney cancer is a form of cancer that starts in the kidneys and spreads throughout the body. Your kidneys are two bean-shaped organs that are about the size of a fist each. They’re behind your abdominal organs, on either side of your back, with one kidney on either side.
The following are the major types of tumours:
Renal cell carcinomas are cancers of the kidneys (RCC). The most common types of malignant kidney tumours are listed below. They’re contained in the kidney’s key product, which is where the filtering happens. RCC may appear as a single tumour or as two or more tumours in the same kidney.
Kidney tumours that are benign. Just about 20% of tumours removed from the kidneys are cancerous. In this category, there are approximately nine called tumours. While some of them may become very large, they are almost always non-cancerous and do not spread to other organs.
Wilms tumours are a form of cancer. Wilms tumours are almost often present in children and are only seen in adults on rare occasions.
