Laminoplasty in Bangladesh
Only the vertebrae in the neck are treated with laminoplasty (cervical spine). It creates a hinge on the lamina, which opens up the space inside the spinal canal. Metal hardware spans the gap in the spine’s opened portion.
Patients with cervical stenosis may be candidates for this procedure. As the spinal canal narrows, it puts pressure on the nerve roots and the spinal cord, causing spinal stenosis. Degeneration of the joints and intervertebral discs may cause the spinal canal to narrow. The development of bone spurs in the spinal canal or the thickening of connecting ligaments may also cause spinal stenosis.
