Spinal Decompression in Bangladesh
The word “spinal decompression surgery” applies to a variety of procedures aimed at alleviating symptoms caused by strain or compression on the spinal cord and/or nerve roots. A corpectomy, a diskectomy, a laminotomy, a foraminotomy, or osteophyte removal are some of your choices.
Decompression surgery comes in a variety of forms:
Laminectomy : The entire bony lamina, a part of the swollen facet joints, and the thickened ligaments overlying the spinal cord and nerves are removed during a laminectomy.
Laminotomy : The removal of a small portion of the lamina and ligaments, normally on one side, is known as laminotomy. The natural support of the lamina is preserved in this process, reducing the risk of spinal instability. An endoscope can be used in some cases to allow for a smaller, less invasive incision.
Foraminotomy : The removal of bone around the neural foramen – the canal from which the nerve root exits the spine – is known as foraminotomy. When disc degeneration causes the height of the foramen to drop and pinch a nerve, this procedure is used.
Laminaplasty is a procedure that involves cutting the laminae on one side and swinging them open like a door to expand the spinal canal. It is only used in the cervical (neck) region.
Discectomy: The removal of a portion of a bulging or degenerative disc to alleviate nerve pressure is known as a discectomy.
