Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC) Surgery in Bangladesh
The blood in TAPVC does not travel the usual path from the lungs to the heart and then out to the rest of the body. Instead, the lungs’ veins connect to the heart in an unnatural way, causing oxygenated blood to enter or leak into the wrong chamber.
TAPVR babies will need surgery to correct the issue. The age at which surgery is performed is determined by the severity of the child’s illness and the structure of the irregular connections between the pulmonary veins and the right atrium. The aim of TAPVR surgery is to restore natural blood flow through the heart. Doctors normally bind the pulmonary veins to the left atrium, close any irregular blood vessel connections, and close the atrial septal defect to repair this defect.
