Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) Surgery in Bangladesh
Transposition of the great arteries is a severe but uncommon heart defect in which the two major arteries leaving the heart are reversed at birth (congenital) (transposed). Dextro-transposition of the great arteries is another name for the disease. Levo-transposition of the great arteries is a more uncommon type of this disease.
Prenatally or within the first hours to weeks of life, transposition of the great arteries is normally observed.
The most common procedure for transposition of the great arteries is corrective surgery soon after birth. It’s scary to have a baby with transposition of the great arteries, but with adequate care, the prognosis is good.
