Urethroplasty in Bangladesh
Urethroplasty is a surgical procedure in which the urethra is reconstructed to treat urethral strictures. Surgical procedures vary depending on the venue, cause, and duration of the stricture. The majority of surgeries take three to six hours to complete.
Over the region of the stricture in the penis, scrotum, or perineum, an incision is made (the area between the scrotum and the anus). A urethral catheter is left in for two to four weeks after surgery, depending on the type of surgery performed. When patients return to the facility, the catheter is gently removed and the bladder is filled with X-ray contrast.
