Cervical Corpectomy in Turkey
A cervical corpectomy is a surgical operation in which the vertebral bone and intervertebral disc tissue is removed to relieve pressure in the cervical spine or neck on the spinal cord and spinal nerves.
Usually the treatment involves reaching the cervical spine through an anterior or frontal approach. Spinal fusion is typically required due to the amount of vertebral bone and/or disk content that must be removed to achieve appropriate neural tissue decompression.
The outcomes of cervical corpectomy and fusion surgery are usually positive for the diagnosis of symptomatic, progressive, cervical spinal stenosis, and myelopathy. The surgery improves pain and function as well as prevents further neurological damage and paralysis. By the use of a small titanium plate, the fusion rate is greatly increased, which usually eliminates the need for a postoperative halo. Some patients are noted to have their pain and function gradually improved following surgery.
