Lumbar Microdiscectomy in Turkey
Microdiscectomy, also sometimes called microdecompression or microdiskectomy, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is performed on patients with a herniated lumbar disk. During this operation a surgeon may remove parts of the herniated disc to relieve pressure on the spine of the spinal nerve.
Lumbar discectomy is a surgical operation in the lower spine to remove a herniated or degenerative disk. The incision is made posterior to remove the disc rubbing on the nerve, via the back muscles. Discectomy may be prescribed if your leg or back pain is not relieved by physical therapy or medication, or if you have symptoms of nerve damage, such as weakness or loss of sensation in your legs.
Discectomy may provide faster pain relief than nonsurgical treatment. However, it is unclear whether surgery makes a difference in what treatment may be needed later on.
- People with leg pain (sciatica) benefit more from surgery than those with back pain.
- People with less severe or improving pain do well with nonsurgical treatment.
- People with moderate to severe pain who had surgery notice a greater improvement than those who did not have surgery.
