Dr. Burak Turna
Dr. Burak Turna was born in Mersin on May 12, 1971, and attended Mersin Anatolian High School for his secondary and high school studies. In 1998, he began a urology graduate degree programme at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Urology Department after graduating from Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine. He worked as a surgical intern and urology assistant at St. James Hospital and had a general surgery rotation at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, England, throughout his studies. He passed the General Medical Council tests while working as an urological assistant and became one of the first Turkish doctors to be granted permission to practice medicine in England. He began working as a specialty doctor at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in May 2003, after becoming a urology specialist. In the same year, he completed the European Association of Urology’s written and oral board exams, earning the title of “Fellow of the European Board of Urology.”
In 2004, as part of the “European Urological Scholarship Program,” he worked in the field of “Endourology” at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland, and in the field of “Laparoscopic and Robotic Urology” at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2006-2007. After earning the title of Associate Professor of Urology, Dr. Turna became the second Turkish doctor to be elected as a Board Member of the European Association of Urology’s Urotechnology Sub-Group in 2010. He is still a member of the Endourology Association and the Turkish Urology Association’s Board of Directors.
He has over 100 national and international pieces to his credit. He was Vice President of Surgical Sciences, Associate Professor Representation, and Head of Urogenital Surgery Training Program at Ege University Faculty of Medicine from 2010 until 2016. Turna got the Turkish Urology Association Science Award in 2014 for his outstanding efforts. After acting as a speaker, instructor, and guest surgeon at various national and international scientific conferences, Dr. Burak Turna co-chaired the 26th World Videourology Congress in Izmir in 2015. Dr. Turna’s primary area of interest is laparoscopic and robotic urological surgery, and he is one of the most experienced academicians in this field, having been awarded the title of Urology Professor in 2016. “Practical Tips in Urology,” an English-language book for young urology doctors, was published in 2017. Prof. Dr. Burak Turna is a member of the Urology Department of Ege University Faculty of Medicine.
