Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant
An allogeneic stem cell transplant uses healthy blood stem cells from a donor to replace your diseased or damaged bone marrow.
The patient completes a treatment regimen of chemotherapy, and occasionally radiation therapy, before an allogeneic stem cell transplantation. This medication for the conditioning is given to kill any remaining cancer cells in the body. This helps weaken the immune system of the patient to help prevent the body from rejecting the cells that were donated after the transplant.
Types of allogeneic transplants, with different names based on the source of the donor cells.
