VMAT Radiation Therapy
Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is a type of radiation treatment in which a three-dimensional dose of radiation is delivered with a single rotation of a linear accelerator.
VMAT is quicker and more effective, taking as little as two minutes per delivery session, compared with other methods in which a delivery system would move around a patient multiple times, starting and stopping frequently during the cycle.
A physician may use sophisticated computer software to help schedule and direct the treatment to ensure the maximum dose of radiation is administered to a tumor while reducing exposure to the healthy tissue surrounding it.
