Pneumonectomy Surgery in Turkey
A pneumonectomy is a type of surgery to remove one of your lungs because of cancer, trauma, or some other condition.
A pneumonectomy is done during a surgery called a thoracotomy. An incision (cut) will be made between two ribs, from the front of the chest round to the back, during a thoracotomy. It helps the surgeon to remove the lung as well as anything else that requires removal.
Conditions that may be treated with Pneumonectomy include:
- Lung cancer.
- Malignant mesothelioma.
- Traumatic injury.
- Disseminated thymomas.
- Bronchial obstruction.
- Congenital lung disease.
- Lung infections such as tuberculosis.
For some people, having a Pneumonectomy eliminates the medical problem, and for others, it slows their disease’s progression or eases symptoms. If you have lung cancer, the cancer may go into remission after a Pneumonectomy or you may need other treatments to destroy remaining cancer cells
