Rastelli Surgery in Turkey
The Rastelli procedure is a surgical procedure to correct certain combinations of cardiovascular defects in patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease.
Repairing Rastelli requires cardiopulmonary by-pass and aortic cross-clamping. Through right ventriculotomy, the ventricular septal defect is visualised. The obstructive right ventricular muscle is excised and a broad intra-ventricular baffle is sutured in position that covers the ventricular septal defect and redirects the left ventricular outflow to the aortic valve that is more anteriorly positioned. The right ventricular to pulmonary artery continuity is accomplished by using a valved homografted conduit. Transesophageal echocardiography is used to help determine the appropriateness of the repair. The time of cardiopulmonary bypass and the aortic time needed to complete the repair is typically moderate to long.
