Lymphoma is a blood cancer that usually affects the lymphocytes, white blood cells inside the lymph are lymphocytes. These cells play an important part in giving an human immunity. Lymphoma has two primary forms which are lymphoma of Hodgkin and lymphoma of non-Hodgkin. Upon reviewing the medical records the doctor will determine what form of lymphoma you are suffering from.
Types of Lymphoma
Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL)
Hodgkin’s lymphoma is less common in patients, and is distinguished by a special Reed-Sternberg cell being present. A Reed-Sternberg cell does not have the mechanism of defense but is large in scale. When it begins to multiply in an abnormal manner, a tumor growing develop which attracts the inflammatory cells within a lymph node. It accounts for no more than 10 per cent of the confirmed and recorded total lymphomas in a year.
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)
In addition to Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a broad community of lymphatic cancer falls under the non-Hodgkin ‘s Lymphoma category. Most lymphomas of non-Hodgkin arise in B-lymphocytes; thus it is often referred to as B-cell lymphoma. NHL is characterized by lymphocyte development which is abnormal. The dysfunctional cells tend to replicate themselves, and do not die as they should. They don’t shield the body from the pathogens or viruses. They begin to accumulate and form a mass of tissue which results in tumor development.
