Prostate Cancer Treatment options in Turkey
Prostate Cancer Chemotherapy:
This is the most popular type of treatment in which cancer cells are destroyed with a drug or a combination of anti-cancer drugs. The drugs are either injected intravenously or given orally in pill form. The active ingredient contained in the drug works by stopping division of the cancer cells and starving them to death. Chemotherapy costs in Turkey are dependent on the number of treatment cycles and the cost of chemotherapy drugs.
Prostate Cancer Radical Prostatectomy:
This is one of the most common methods of surgical treatment for the reduction of prostate cancer. The surgeon removes absolutely the prostate gland and the surrounding tissues which may be infected by the cancer cells. This is done as an open surgery or as a laparoscopic procedure. Laparoscopic prostatectomy is a medical procedure involving minimally invasive prostate cancer. This leads to fewer complications, rapid recovery time and less pain.
Robotic Radical Prostatectomy for Prostate Cancer:
Robotic radical prostatectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure for prostate cancer. Robotic hands are used to partially or completely extract the prostate gland. A surgeon directs the robotic hands which sees the patient’s inside on a computer screen. The robotic hands are built to handle all the tools required to make an incision and cut off the prostate gland. This is an expensive procedure, resulting in quick recovery and minimal pain.
Prostate Cancer Brachytherapy:
It is a type of radiation therapy from inside. In this process, seeds of high dose radiation are inserted within the patient’s body, near the cancer site. The seeds inward spill radioactive radiation, destroying cancer cells. The seeds are either permanently placed and destroyed by themselves, or sometimes removed and substituted. This treatment helps to reduce damage to other healthy organs and tissues.
Cyberknife for Prostate Cancer:
This highly advanced technology will target extremely high radiation exposure at different points. The system itself will move and change according to the area where action is required. This mobile technology, therefore, irradiates cancer cells in the prostate. Cyberknife is an extremely precise and efficient technology that allows for rapid recovery.
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for Prostate Cancer:
High-intensity focussed ultrasound (HIFU) uses powerful sound waves to kill cancer cells in the prostate. The high-frequency energy used to heat the cancer cells in the treatment, which eventually die off during the process. HIFU may be carried out under the control of local or general anesthesia. Typically, the patient is not required to stay overnight after the course of treatment. After HIFU recovery is fairly fast.
Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer:
Hormone therapy is a treatment for cancer that eliminates hormones or inhibits their function, which prevents the growth of cancer cells. Hormones are substances which are made in the body by glands and which circulate in the bloodstream. Male sex hormones can cause growing prostate cancer in prostate cancer. Drugs, surgery, or other hormones are used to either reduce or block the amount of male hormones from working. This is termed deprivation therapy for androgen (ADT).
Hormone Therapy for prostate cancer can include:
Abiraterone acetate can prevent androgens from developing in prostate cancer cells. It is used in people with advanced prostate cancer who with other hormone therapy have not gotten better.
Orchiectomy is a surgical procedure for removing one or both of the testicles, the main source of male hormones, such as testosterone, to minimize the amount of hormone released.
Estrogens (hormones which promote the characteristics of female sex) can prevent testosterone from being produced by the testes.
Luteinizing hormone-releasing agonists can stop testosterone from making the testicles.
Antiandrogens can block the action of androgens (hormones that promote male sex characteristics), such as testosterone. Examples are flutamide, bicalutamide, enzalutamide, apalutamide, and nilutamide.
Immunotherapy for Prostate Cancer
Immunotherapy is a cancer-fighting procedure that uses the patient’s immune system. Body-made or laboratory-made substances are used to improve, steer, or restore the body’s natural defenses against cancer. Sipuleucel-T is a type of immunotherapy that has metastasised (spread to other parts of the body) used to treat prostate cancer.
