Split type Liver Transplant
Split donation involves the transplantation of a liver from an adult recently deceased to two recipients. That is possible if an adult and a child are the next appropriate recipients. The donated liver is broken down into the lobes of the left and right. The adult usually gets the bigger right lobe, and the infant gets the smaller left lobe.
Similar to living donor transplants, the transplanted portions of the liver will grow back to the original size by regeneration. This method benefits two patients at a time.
