Arthroscopic PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) Surgery
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the main ligament inside the back of the knee that stops the shin bone (tibia) from wobbling too far backwards (posteriorly).
PCL tears tend to occur from either dashboard-type injuries or from falls directly onto the front of the knee, particularly with hyper-flexion of the joint. PCL tears can also occur as part of a multi-ligament injury.
PCL Reconstruction is done by placing patient supine on the operating table, and under general anesthesia a thorough examination is conducted with careful assessment of possible ligament injuries. The operating extremity is placed in an arthroscopic leg holder and a tourniquet to the thigh is used.
