Staged Bilateral Total Hip Replacement Surgery
Hip replacement is the removal and replacement of portions of the pelvis and femur (thighbone) that form your hip joint. It is performed primarily to relieve hip pain and stiffness caused by hip arthritis.
The staged technique ensures that all hip replacements occur as two different surgical events. Surgeries are scheduled several months apart, involving two hospital stays, two doses of anesthesia and two periods of recovery.
The time between surgeries may vary depending upon your individual medical condition but most surgeons will want you torecover about 3 months from the first surgery before you undergo the second surgery.
