Aortic Arch Repair Surgery
In asymptomatic patients, aortic arch repair is indicated for aneurysmal aortic arch disease (degeneration or chronic dissections) when the aortic arch reaches 5.5 cm. In patients with acute aortic dissection it is necessary to repair the entire aortic arch when the arch is aneurysmal or when there is extensive damage and leakage of the aortic arch.
Repair is also indicated when an infected (mycotic) aneurysm occurs or when severe atherosclerosis (plaque) occurs in the arch that has contributed to strokes. A growth rate of more than 0.5 cm / year in the absence of symptoms may also be considered a surgical sign.
