Orchidectomy Surgery
You may have surgery to remove your (orchidectomy) testicles. The testes generate testosterone which can aid the growth of prostate cancer. Thus removal of the testicles may help regulate prostate cancer growth. The level of testosterone in the blood drop rapidly following removal of the testicles.
The surgeon makes a tiny cut and extracts the testicles in your groin. They the put in fake testes (prostheses) after removing the testicles so that your scrotum looks and feels the same.
You can have a smaller operation to remove only the inside of your testes. It is an orchidctomy of the subcapsules. After this surgery you do not need a prosthesis.
