Penectomy in Turkey
Penectomy is the operative procedure for removing all or part of the penis. This procedure is mostly used for treating penile cancer. Penile cancer is a group of cells inside or on the surface of the penis that are malignant, or cancerous.
Total penectomy involves getting your entire penis removed. In this case, surgeons within the perineum will create a new urinary opening. The perineum is the area between anus and a scrotum. This is known as urethrostomy perineum.
Partial penectomy removes your penis from the end, but leaves the shaft intact.
Both operations can be conducted under either general or spinal anesthesia, meaning you either sleep through the operation or stay awake but are fully numb in the surgery area. In certain situations, such as the cancer that invades deep tissue, some of your lymph nodes may need to be removed.
