PCNL in Turkey
PCNL is a procedure used to extract any stones in the kidney or upper ureter (the tube that removes urine from the kidney to the bladder) which are too large for certain types of stone treatment such as shock wave lithotripsis or ureteroscopy.
Under general anesthesia PCNL is done with the patient lying face down on their abdomen. Once anesthesia is given, the surgeon can conduct cystoscopy (telescopic inspection of the bladder) and instill xray dye or carbon dioxide into your kidney through a small catheter that is inserted through the affected kidney’s ureter or drainage tube to “map” the branches of the collection system. This allows your surgeon to locate the stone inside the kidney accurately and to place a small needle under xray guidance through the skin for direct access to the stone.
