Pyeloplasty in Turkey
Pyeloplasty is surgery used to correct a condition called ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction.
Obstruction to UPJ may be surgically treated. This will need to be done early in life, if the condition is serious. Surgery can mostly wait until later in life. Not all the cases require surgery. The urine will flow normally, after a successful surgery.
Often open surgery is done for kids. Less intrusive surgery can be performed on adults. The procedure is termed pyeloplasty. The procedure takes several hours to complete. A 2-3 “cut is made just below the ribs during pyeloplasty. The ureter segment which is obstructed is removed. Then reattach the normal caliber ureter to the renal pelvis. A stent is inserted into the kidney to drain urine. The stent will be extracted after the surgery heals.
