RIRS in Turkey
Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a procedure that uses a viewing tube called a fiberoptic endoscope to do surgery within the kidney.
In RIRS the scope is inserted into the bladder through the urethra (the urinary opening) and then through the ureter into the portion of the kidney that collects urine. The distance is therefore shifted backwards (up to the network of the urinary tract) into the kidney (intrarenal).
There are several advantages to opting for RIRS over open surgery such as achieving faster problem solving, eliminating prolonged post-surgery pain and a much faster recovery period.
RIRS used for,
- Failed attempts at treatment
- Kidney stones too large for treatment by lithotripsy
- Strictures in the kidney
- Tumors in the kidney
- Kidney stones among children
- Bleeding disorders in the kidneys
- Grossly obese patients
