Urethroplasty in Turkey
Urethroplasty is an open surgical reconstruction or urethra replacement that has been narrowed by scar tissue and spongiofibrosis (urethral strenght). Urethroplasty is the urethal reconstruction gold standard, providing the strongest and most reliable performance. Typical grafts used to reconstruct the urethra are harvested from the extra-genital skin, or from the mouth’s inner lining. The mouth graft is called a “buccal graft”.
There are several ways to repair urinary canal blockages. Some scar tissue can be spread open as a method of therapy but with this procedure, the scar can come back easily. A camera and small scope may be used to direct a tiny knife to remove the wound and usually leave a drainage channel in the penis. This is useful in most cases for short scars, or new ones. The longest serviceable procedure is urethroplasty. This procedure either removes or enlarges the scar tissue region through a cut in the skin. After surgery a small drainage tube ( catheter) is left in place to allow healing of the treated area.
Most patients recover fairly quickly after the procedure but the swelling from the surgery may take weeks to get better. In general it is recommended to limit activity to basic needs until the penis drain (catheter) is removed. Pain should improve in the first week after surgery.
