Rastelli Surgery
Rastelli procedure is used to correct certain combinations of congenital heart defects (CHDs):
- dextro-Transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA), or overriding aorta, or double outlet right ventricle (DORV); and
- Ventricular septal defect (VSD)
- Right ventricular outflow tract obstruction (RVOTO):
pulmonary atresia; or
pulmonary stenosis; or
subpulmonary stenosis.
Initially, the Rastelli procedure was used to restore large vessels with ventricular septal defect and pulmonary stenosis d-transposition. Subsequently, it was used for a number of congenital heart defects characterized by two ventricles and extreme pulmonary stenosis or pulmonary atresia exceeding the aorta.
