ROSS Cardiac Surgery
The Ross Procedure is often very effective for treating damaged aortic valves. The aortic valve handles all the blood being pumped back out to the body. The patient’s pulmonary valve is similarly shaped and can usually be “swapped out” with the damaged aortic valve.
The pulmonary valve is normally under less stress since there is no need for the correct pumping chamber to produce as much energy to move the blood to the lungs. Consequently, a new valve in the pulmonary role could be more likely to work because there is less competition for this valve.
